Partner with Bioversity and Shape the Future Workforce

Bioversity’s workforce training programs are training the next generation of Massachusetts life sciences talent — talent that is prepared specifically for a wide range of entry-level roles in lab operations, facilities, supply chain, and biomanufacturing.

Our graduates are pre-screened, work-ready, and prepared to contribute on day one. More than 35 employers have already hired Bioversity graduates, and dozens more have volunteered their time to support student success.

If you are looking to support Bioversity and our mission of connecting great people with great careers in the life sciences, there are three ways to engage: volunteer, hire, or fund.

Who are Our Graduates?

Bioversity’s graduates are working-age adults who are unemployed or underemployed, generally do not hold a college degree, and have no prior biotech experience, but who have been rigorously selected for their potential based on their work experience and transferable skills. Over 29 months, Bioversity has enrolled 153 students from an applicant pool of more than 2,100 people.

We specifically select students who have worked in customer service, hospitality, trades, and other jobs requiring teamwork and effective communication skills. We love enrolling people who have experience working with software systems, following SOPs, and working in hazardous environments.

All of our students pro-actively chose Bioversity because they wanted a new start, a new job, and a new career for them and their families. That motivation translates directly to their first job in biotech.

Every student admitted to Bioversity has:

  • Passed an online assessment measuring English, math, and computer skills
  • Completed a phone screen and in-person interview
  • Cleared a background check
  • Been selected based on work history, transferable skills, and demonstrated commitment to a career change

Graduate outcomes:

  • 135+ graduates to date
  • 80% placed in life sciences roles or enrolled in full-time college
  • $27/hour average starting wage, plus comprehensive benefits

What Do Graduates Know How to Do?

Bioversity’s employer informed, intensive eight-week curriculum (160 hours +), developed and taught in partnership with MCPHS (Boston) and UMass Lowell (Lowell), prepares graduates for immediate employment in lab operations, supply chain, biomanufacturing, and facilities roles. Core competencies include:

Laboratory Techniques Aseptic technique, solution and buffer preparation, precise measurement with micropipettes and pH meters, use of spectrophotometers and fume hoods, and safe handling of CO₂, liquid nitrogen, and dry ice.

Documentation, Compliance & Safety Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) creation, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), data integrity standards, and laboratory safety protocols.

Data & Team-Based Problem Solving Data entry and analysis using Excel, collaboration and critical thinking in lab-based scenarios, and exposure to AI tools for technical problem-solving.

Laboratory Inventory Management Categorizing and managing lab consumables and supplies, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining organized lab spaces, and reconciling purchase orders.

Employer Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available at both our Dorchester and Lowell training locations. Volunteering is a meaningful way for your employees to connect with the next generation of life sciences talent and a strong fit for companies with employee engagement or CSR goals.

Mock Interviews: Recruiters and hiring managers provide students with resume and interview feedback. Mock interviews are offered three times per cohort.

Panel Discussions: Industry volunteers participate in two recurring panel formats:

  • Job Search Fundamentals: Talent acquisition leaders walk students through the full hiring process, from job postings to offer letters.
  • Lab Operations Careers: Lab professionals share their career journeys and offer advice for those entering the field.

Lunch Presentations — Monday through Thursday availability for professionals from non-traditional backgrounds to speak with students about their career paths and offer guidance.

Student Site Visits — Bring a group of Bioversity students to your facility for a tour and introduction to your work environment.

Career Fair Participation — Join Bioversity’s end-of-cohort career fair, attended by an average of 10 employers per cohort. Meet candidates in person before committing to a formal interview process.

Hiring our Graduates

Bioversity graduates are well-suited for early-career roles including lab operations associate, manufacturing technician, lab technician, senior site specialist, logistics technician, packaging technician, and molecular lab assistant.

Bioversity makes it easy to find and hire graduates through two channels:

Career Fair — An in-person hiring event held at the end of each cohort. Think of it as a structured, efficient way to meet candidates face to face before committing to a full interview process.

Resume Book

Bioversity sends out a resume book of our graduating class to each of our employer partners. We are happy to facilitate discussions with students and circulate open roles to our graduates.

Funding Bioversity

Bioversity is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded entirely by grants and philanthropy. With a lean staff of four, donations go directly to funding student training, including the $500/week stipend that makes it possible for un- and underemployed adults to participate without financial hardship.

Corporate funding opportunities are available at multiple levels, including event sponsorship opportunities.
