Our Mission

Bioversity blazes training pathways and creates employer connections for underrepresented populations and individuals traditionally left out of the life sciences to quickly propel them into well-paying jobs and lifelong careers. We aspire to an equitable life sciences industry that reflects the patient communities it serves and delivers career opportunities to all who want them.

About Us

Bioversity is a Massachusetts incorporated non-profit, with tax exempt 501c3 status, launched by MassBio. It was formed to implement industry-aligned, expanded workforce training initiatives. Bioversity operates training centers, runs programming, and creates partnerships to provide Massachusetts residents the skills and hands-on experience necessary to enter and thrive in life sciences careers. Together with MassBio, we serve as the nexus of learners, employers, educational institutions, and community organizations to make the whole of the life sciences workforce development landscape more efficient; allowing people to find jobs faster and employers to have easier access to a broader and more diverse talent pipeline.

Workforce Training Center at Southline Boston

In January 2024, Bioversity officially opened a dedicated, 4,000-square-foot lab and classroom training center at the Southline Boston development in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston – the old Boston Globe headquarters. The center has lab and separate classroom space that can accommodate up to 24 people. This site serves as host to Bioversity’s own workforce training programs as well as other programming by our workforce partners with similar missions. The site is easily accessible by T at the JFK/UMass stop (Red Line; or Commuter Rail [Greenbush, Kingston, or Middleborough lines]) or by car.

Bioversity Certificate Programs

Alongside the opening of the Bioversity space at Southline Boston, Bioversity launched its inaugural certificate training program on January 8th, 2024. Open to those with a high school degree or a GED, this 8 week program will run in-person Monday through Thursday 9am – 3pm with additional time needed for homework or asynchronous learning.

The program provides graduates with a clear pathway toward a rewarding entry-level career at a local life sciences company. Built on extensive input from life sciences employers in Massachusetts, this training curriculum built by the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences focuses on developing learner’s technical skills as well as soft skills necessary to succeed and advance in a career. Graduates of this course will be ready immediately for employment in areas such as lab operations, facilities management, supply chain and operations, environment, health, and safety (EHS) – jobs that have starting salaries in the mid five-figures plus excellent benefits.

Bioversity will assist graduates of the program with job placement starting on day 1 and will offer coaching throughout the first year of a graduate’s career to provide the best chance of success and promotion.

Applications for this training program are open on a running basis. We will be hosting five cohorts during 2024. Apply today!

Commitment to Continuing Education

As part of our mission, Bioversity is committed to helping our graduates pursue an academic journey beyond high school. While graduates of our program will be best positioned to go directly into the workforce, Bioversity will provide connections and support for students who wish to also pursue a 2- or 4- year degree including offering a one-time $2,000 tuition voucher to graduates who are accepted to Bioversity’s partner institutions. Life sciences employers also often offer educational benefits such as tuition reimbursement which can make a further educational journey more easily obtainable.
