Hello, I’m a Molecular Lab Assistant

What were you doing before joining the Bioversity program?
Before joining Bioversity, I was working as a medical assistant in hospitals and clinics. I enjoyed helping patients, but I knew I wanted something bigger, something that would challenge me and open the door to a long-term career in the life sciences.
What motivated you to join Bioversity?
I joined Bioversity because I was ready for a change. I wanted real training, real skills, and a real shot at stepping into biotech. I knew I had the drive, I just needed a program that would match it.
What was your experience like during the program?
The program was intense, supportive, and honestly life-shifting. The instructors pushed me in the best way, the community kept me grounded, and the hands-on labs gave me the confidence I didn’t even realize I was missing.
How did Bioversity help you build the skills or confidence needed for your current role?
Bioversity helped me build both the skills and the confidence I needed for my role as a Molecular Lab Assistant. The program didn’t just teach me lab theory, it taught me how to actually work in a lab. Every technique, every protocol, every hands-on practice session prepared me for what I’m doing now. They pushed me, they challenged me, and they made sure I understood not just the “how,” but the “why.” By the time I finished, I didn’t just feel ready, I knew I belonged in this field.
What aspects of the program had the biggest impact on you?
The hands-on learning changed everything for me, but the instructors and career support really sealed it. They saw potential in me even when I was tired, stressed, or doubting myself. That meant a lot.
Was there a specific moment in the program that helped you realize you were on the right path?
Yes. During one of the more advanced lab sessions, everything just clicked. I remember thinking, “Damn… I can actually do this.” That was the moment I knew I was on the right path.
Tell us more about your new biotech job?
I’m currently a Molecular Lab Assistant at Foundation Medicine. It’s my first role in biotech, and it feels like everything I worked for finally came together.
What excites you most about the work you’re doing?
What excites me most is knowing the work I do plays a part in helping real patients. It’s meaningful, it’s challenging, and it pushes me to level up every single day.
How has your life changed since completing the program?
My life has changed in every way. I stepped into a new career, started my Life Science Communication course on September 2nd, and I just got accepted into the Bachelor’s in Biology program at MCPHS. My confidence, my direction, my momentum, everything has gone up.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining Bioversity?
Do it. If you’re serious about leveling up your career, Bioversity will meet you halfway — but you’ve got to show up ready to work. It’s not easy, but it’s worth every minute.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your journey or the role Bioversity has played in it?
Bioversity helped me rewrite my future. They gave me the training, the support, and the push I needed. I’m proud of the work I put in — and I’m grateful for how far it’s taken me.
Thank you to 2025 Bioversity graduate, Daqnya Johnson for sharing her story.
